Panel Planning
How to Plan a Comic Issue Scene by Scene
Structure scenes as panels, page turns, action beats, reveals, and cliffhangers.
Comic pacing is visual. A scene needs panels that change the reader viewpoint, reveal information, and make each turn feel intentional.
Use panel jobs
- Establish the location.
- Show the danger.
- Reveal the choice.
- Pay off the action.
- End with a question or twist.
Let silence work
Not every panel needs dialogue. A reaction, shadow, broken object, or citywide view can carry the emotional beat.
